Parts Work & Inner Child Work
What does this image bring up for you? Parts work assumes that we all have different parts of us that are working to protect us at all times. This isn’t the same as someone experiencing Dissociative Identity Disorder, with distinct personality parts that are separate from one another. It can be as simple as someone who says, “A part of me knows that doesn’t make sense, but another part believes it anyway.”
This allows us to notice, observe, understand, and provide care to all the different parts of ourselves. We can be compassionate toward the young child inside who might have experienced really overwhelming things without enough support. We can reparent and offer skills and tools that we didn’t get when we were young. We can allow that little one inside to feel joy and excitement and awe again.
